DfE are a ministerial department supported by 18 agencies, public bodies, and non-ministerial departments, with offices based across England including Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Coventry and Darlington. Reporting into the Risk Manager, the Risk Officer will be responsible for supporting the building of a positive and effective risk management culture in the Department. Working closely with the Risk Manager and Head of System Risk Management, the Risk Officer will be responsible for managing the Department’s Risk Hub and supporting reporting arrangements in line with the Department’s Risk Management Framework. The post holder will develop cross departmental and organisational relationships to develop detailed knowledge of key risks and ensure reports are produced for a range of management teams and Committees.
The post holder will be responsible for:
*Managing the day to day operation of the Department’s Risk Hub including ensuring its continued effectiveness and future development in line with the Risk Management Framework.
*Supporting the Risk Manager in identifying key risks to be reported and escalated in line with the Risk Management Framework.
*Assisting with raising the profile of identification and management of system risk across the Department and supporting the continued development of staff knowledge of effective risk management at all levels.
*Working collaboratively with risk and assurance leads across the Department to build effective networks and champion good risk management practices and behaviours.
*Supporting the development of the approach to which system wide risks can be managed more effectively between DfE and its Arm’s Length Bodies
The successful candidate will support the delivery of changes in the department through the effective management of the Risk Hub. You will be enthusiastic about the development of new systems and supportive in helping individuals across the department to embed the practices of the departmental risk framework, driving out required detail in order to ensure the creation of high-quality reports for the department’s board and committees. You will have a passion for delivering change and the personality to lead and influence people throughout the department. Experience and understanding of the role of Risk Management Frameworks and advanced excel skills would be an advantage.
