Robertson Bell Finance are proud to be working in partnership with Tower Hamlets Homes, an award winning ALMO (Arm’s Length Management Organisation) to recruit a Management Accountant for Capital and Repairs. Based near Canary Wharf, Tower Hamlets Homes provides housing services to the local community of Tower Hamlets in London’s East End. The 21,000 homes they manage comprise of both leasehold and tenanted residences and represent roughly 20% of all homes in the borough. As such, the organisation has a powerful local presence, and their strong efforts over the last ten years have resulted in a significant increase in overall resident satisfaction.
Since their launch in 2008, they have won numerous awards, notably for their delivery of workplace equality and diversity, and have a great record of staff retention. This results from various mentoring and development programmes, as well as seeking staff with a commitment to deliver excellent customer service to both internal and external stake-holders.
The role represents an outstanding opportunity for someone with the drive and passion to apply existing knowledge and skills while developing their Finance career. The Management Accountant for Capital and Repairs will report to the Finance Manager and is a role in which the right candidate can add real value to the organisation by engaging with external budget managers and encouraging them to use the Finance team as a valuable resource. The role’s key responsibilities are to:
*Monitor the delegated budgets for Capital and Repairs by interpreting data to provide key financial information in these areas
*Provide timely financial management information to support the management team of the repairs contractor, and the in-house team that monitors their work, ensuring proper controls are followed and timely information is supplied
*Provide timely financial management information surrounding estate improvements such as the Decent Homes initiative, as well as Mechanical and Engineering improvements, to support management
*Develop relationships with project managers, ensuring an understanding of the progress of the projects, ensuring forecasts are realistic, and challenging them on key deliverables where needed
*Running month end reports, delivering monthly management accounts and reporting packs to produce budgets and forecasts
*Extract and transfer data from the Housing Management System to the general ledger, ensuring information is accurate and up to date
*Understand, interpret and analyse financial data, and analyse reports from the repairs contractor with a view to advising budget managers on the best course of practice
*Be the technical expert for the finance team, providing a sound interpretation of financial information, and providing summaries for senior management
*Oversee the work of an Assistant Management Accountant and a Trainee Accountant, as well as mentoring, training, and evaluating performance.
This role is perfect for someone with a strong appetite for financial analysis and technical data. Furthermore, experience of Capital Accounting and working in a program team is essential. A background in local councils or housing associations will be beneficial, as an understanding of leasehold and service charges would enable the Management Accountant to hit the ground running. We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious finance professional, either qualified or part qualified (CCAB), with first class communication and analytical skills who can build relationships, influence decision making and add value.
The ideal candidate will have very strong Excel skills, as the role involves manipulating large sets of data. Excellent interpersonal skills will be needed in order to guide and challenge budget holders and project managers. Lastly, while prior team management experience is not essential, the appointed candidate will be able to demonstrate leadership attributes and a desire to lead a team.
With a great benefits package on offer, and the chance to join a young, dynamic organisation that loves to invest in its staff, Tower Hamlets are known to be an excellent employer. If you are looking for the next step in your career and want to be part of an organisation with a strong social impact, please get in touch with Stuart Thomson at Robertson Bell by emailing an up to date CV to email@example.com before the closing date of 18th July.
