Management Accountant - Capital & Repairs

Tower Hamlets Homes is an award winning ALMO (Arm’s Length Management Organisation) that provide housing services to the local community of Tower Hamlets in London’s East End. The organisation has a powerful local presence, managing 21,000 homes comprising of both leasehold and tenanted residences which represents roughly 20% of all homes in the borough. They are proud of their service and are now looking for a Management Accountant for Capital and Repairs to join the team.

The role represents an excellent opportunity with the drive and passion to apply existing knowledge and skills while developing their Finance career. The Management Accountant for Capital and Repairs will report to the Finance Manager and is a role in which the right candidate can add real value to the organisation by engaging with external budget managers and encouraging them to use the Finance team as a valuable resource. The role’s key responsibilities are to:

• Monitor the delegated budgets for Capital and Repairs by interpreting data to provide key financial information in these areas
• Provide timely financial management information to support the management team of the repairs contractor, and the in-house team that monitors their work, ensuring proper controls are followed and timely information is supplied
• Provide timely financial management information surrounding Capital works such as Mechanical and Engineering works, Gas Safety, Fire Safety, the Better Neighbourhoods scheme, and much more
• Develop relationships with project managers, ensuring an understanding of the progress of the projects, ensuring forecasts are realistic, and challenging them on key deliverables where needed

• Running month end reports, delivering monthly management accounts, and reporting packs to produce budgets and forecasts

• Act as the Business Partner to areas including Asset Management, Neighbourhood Area Offices, and those in charge of the company’s running costs (including staff salaries), encouraging budget managers to take responsibility for their budgets and better inform decision making for the business
• Monitor Tower Hamlets Homes’ core company budget and delegated budget by providing KPIs and other management information to help assess performance & delivery of objectives, assisting in the development of new KPIs and encouraging Finance to be seen as a valuable resource.

• Oversee the work of an Assistant Management Accountant and a Trainee Accountant, as well as mentoring, training, evaluating performance, and supporting them in their ongoing career development.

The Management Accountant – Capital and Repairs is ideal for candidates who meet the following criteria:

• Part or fully qualified as an accountant, with experience of Capital Accounting and/or dealing with a Capital Programme within a Housing, Local Authority, Major Works, or Property environment
• Possess first class communication skills, along with the ability to build productive professional relationships with stakeholders at all levels
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to manipulate large volumes of data.
