My client is a well-established charity based near Bognor Regis who are now seeking a Financial Controller to join their team on a permanent basis. Reporting into the CEO, this role is responsible for all things finance and holds a critical position as part of the extended senior management team. Managing a team of three and through the provision of financial support and advice, you will enable the charity to deliver financial targets and continue on their current strategic path.

The key duties and responsibilities of this Financial Controller role are as follows:

  • Take the lead on the day-to-day management of the finance department, ensuring that all financial activities are being conducted accurately and getting stuck in to the detail as required.
  • Act as the face of the finance department to senior management and the Board of Trustees, contributing towards strategic decision through sound financial advice and analysis.  
  • Full responsibility for producing the monthly management accounts and the board packs for presentation to the Senior Management Team, the Finance Committee and the Trustees.
  • Business partner with all department heads, helping them to produce and manage their budgets.
  • Play a leading role in the preparation of the statutory accounts and act as a key contact for the External Auditors at year end.
  • Manage a small team of finance professionals, giving them opportunities to grow and develop and providing cover as necessary.

This Financial Controller role will suit someone with previous experience operating at a senior level in a finance team who is ready to take a step up and gain more exposure to strategic decision making and working with Executive level stakeholders. Please note that this is an office-based role, so applicants must live within a commutable distance from their offices near Bognor Regis.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Fully qualified as an accountancy professional.
  • Previous experience operating at a similar seniority level previously.
  • Experience managing and developing a small team of finance professionals.
  • Demonstrable experience of both management and statutory accounting.
  • Brilliant communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ideally, previous experience improving processes or implementing new systems.
