The Cabinet Office has a vital role to play at the centre of government. Its purpose is clear: to maintain the integrity of the union, the security of the country and a flourishing democracy; to ensure delivery of the Government’s programme and the Prime Minister’s priorities; and to ensure the delivery of the finest public services by attracting and developing the best public servants and improving the efficiency of government.

The Investment Portfolio Committee, has been established to analyse material business cases. You will be responsible in reviewing these business cases and will be the primary interface between the wider department and the Investment Committee.

You will be part of the strategic finance division and develop a more structured quality assurance arrangement which will yield sound management information, great appraisal quality and reinforce compliance with appraisal standards. Consequently, you will be driving change, and working with senior individuals across the department.

Interpersonal skills are of paramount importance to this role. The post-holder will partner and collaborate with a range of stakeholders, acting as the lead finance contact for financial assurance and embedding finance in decision making. This role will bring together financial knowledge with policy, strategy, commercial awareness and analysis. The post holder will also ensure stewardship of public funds, efficient and effective use of budgets and provide directors and officials with insightful evaluation to inform robust decision making.

We are looking for an ambitious and proactive professional, with first class communication skills so that they are confident in advising, challenging and negotiating to help enable business areas to produce high quality business cases. Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to question and challenge. Commercial and policy knowledge and/or previous experience in a policy/commercial delivery environment are also useful.

Salary – £31,339 – £38,580 + £2,500 or £5,000 accountancy allowance (Dependant on qualification status)
